The Texas Revolution

Causes of the Texas Revolution Anglo-Americans who moved to Texas were upset that they were told to be Catholic, official documents were in Spanish, after 1830 immigration was banned and so was Slavery.

President Santa Anna Became Dictator of Mexico and ruled without any regard to laws or peoples rights. He sent troops and tax collectors to Texas. This started the Texas revolt.

Davy Crockett A United States Senator and Frontiersman, he went with a group of Tennessee men to the Alamo where he was killed defending it.

The Battle of the Alamo A group of 183 Texans under William B. Travis and Jim Bowie defended the Alamo (an old church made into a fort) against 6,000 Mexican troops under General Santa Anna. The siege lasted 13 days, then the Mexicans rushed in and killed all the defenders.

Battle of San Jacinto A Texas army under Sam Huston attacked Santa Anna’s army, screaming remember the Alamo and captured him. Forcing him to sign a treaty giving Texas its independence.

Lone Star State Texas became a country, most Texans wanted to be Annexed by the United States. The fear was that Mexico would take them over. There were large tracks of land in dispute with Mexico.
