Why worry? Average Minnesotan: 7 lbs of trash per day % Extra 1 million tons/week in US. Holiday Minnesotan: Increases daily trash

What is the waste? Food Waste Wrapping waste Over packaged goods Fashion Trends

What is the waste? Toys & Other goods…. only built to last 6 months Alternatives: *Buy goods that are durable *Give gift of time or experience

What to do? If every family reused 2 ft of ribbon…. 38,000 miles of saved ribbon could tie a bow around Earth. If every family wrapped 3 presents in re-used materials… the saved paper would cover 45,000 football fields!! The 2.65 billion Christmas cards sold each year in the U.S. could fill a football field 10 stories high. If we each sent one card less, we’d save 50,000 cubic yards of paper.

What to do?

What to do? Rethink your Christmas Wish List Will the items last? Do you really intend to play with it for a long time? Is there something better, more durable? Do I really need “things”? What about time doing something instead ?(movie, Science Museum, Vertical Endeavors, etc.) Rethink your Christmas Giving List Consider giving of your time.
