 “A wiki is a collection of web pages that can be edited by anyone, at any time, from anywhere” (Fountain, 2005).  The word “wiki” actually means “quick” in Hawaiian.  A wiki can also be simply described as a collaborative web site.  Wikis can be used as a web site to post information or to collaborate with students, classmates, or co-workers.

 Step 1: o Choose a wiki web site. Options include: o I chose for this presentationwww.wikispaces.com

 Go to o Choose which product is best for you: Wikis for Organizations or Wikis for Individuals or Groups o I chose Wikis for Individuals and Groups

 Sign up is extremely easy: o Decide on an username, enter a password, and provide an address o Click on “Join Now”

 Choose and enter a name for your wiki. Think carefully about the URL you are about to create. I used “presentation-example for demonstration purposes.

 Grant permissions: o Public (free) – Everyone can view and edit your pages o Protected (free) – Everyone can view pages, only wiki members can edit them o Private (first 30 days free) – only wiki members can view and edit pages

 Choose your wiki type:  Then click on the button to create a new wiki

 Getting started: o Click on the edit button to put your own content on the page. o To invite new members, click on Manage Wiki and Invite People o To change your wiki’s colors or theme, click on Manage Wiki and Look and Feel o To set who can view and edit your wiki, click on Manage Wiki and Permissions
