Warm Up Answer the questions about the poem on the following slide: What form is it written in? What is the structure of the poem (sub-form)? How does the form enhance the meaning of the poem?

Pair Practice Analyze the poem on pgs. 766-767 using the SOAPSTone method. Write it down in your notebooks and discuss your analysis with your partner. Label each piece of analysis with its corresponding poetry element. How does the form help you understand the poem? What type of poetic form is used? How do you know?

Join with your 4 person group Take your answers and get into your 4 person groups and share what your pair came up with. Did they come up with a different answer? How did they interpret the poem?

Poetry -> Sound Activity Instructions: Part One Copy the definitions of the literary terms. Read the poem silently. Look for examples of the sound devices. Once you have finished reading, check for understanding by discussing the poem. Do you understand it? Find examples of alliteration, assonance, consonance, and onomatopoeia.
