POWERPOINT PROCEDURES

Purposes of PowerPoint Presentations INFORMATIONAL PERSUASIVE ENTERTAINMENT

Before you begin……… SET THE MOOD! For example, show a picture and/or tell a story.

Imagine yourself at the Super Bowl, sitting at the 50 yard-line...

KEEP SLIDES APPEALING Limit information. Use bullet points. Additional information can be put on notes.

WHAT NOT TO DO… This is an example of what a PowerPoint slide should NOT look like. This slide has too many words and it is difficult for the audience to see and read all the words and it is NOT very eye-appealing at all. What do you think about all of these words? The background color and font of this slide are also an example of what a PowerPoint slide should NOT look like. The colors chosen make it difficult for the audience to see and read the words. What do you think about the colors?

During the presentation… ALWAYS STAND.

ALWAYS… Maintain EYE CONTACT with your audience.

To ensure everyone in the audience will hear you… SPEAK CLEARLY AND LOUDLY!

PACE YOUR PRESENTATION… in a timely manner.

EXPLAIN… each slide clearly to the audience.

WHAT NOT TO DO… Do NOT just read the words on the slides during your presentation--the audience can read the words themselves.

DO…  Keep the audience engaged with phrases or numbers.  Use additional notes while presenting to give more details.  50%

INVOLVE YOUR AUDIENCE… Before During After For example, the presenter can ask the audience a lead question… Did you know…? What do you think…?.

CONCLUDE YOUR PRESENTATION with…  questions/quiz for your audience.  an ending slide with your name/sources.  a summary of the main points.

OBJECTIVES FOR AUDIENCES:  ALWAYS show respect by paying attention and listening to all presenters.  DO NOT cause any distractions during presentations.

REFRAIN from…  talking to anyone during the presentation until you are asked to participate in a question or discussion session.

DO ASK…  pertinent questions regarding the information presented AND MAKE…  constructive, positive comments to the presenters.

QUIZ 1.What are three purposes of PowerPoint presentations? 2.How should you begin and end your PowerPoint presentation? 3.Why should you involve the audience in your presentation? 4.What are the proper procedures for presenting a PowerPoint presentation? 5.What are the proper procedures for the members of the audience?
