Independent Task 1 Open the “Internet Detective” website: Complete the tasks on the website Using the knowledge gained from the website evaluate one of the sources you found in last week’s searches on “advertising and children” 20mins max (they had to go through the website for homework)

Introduction to eBooks Open the library page Investigate where you search for eBooks by conducting an eBook search for “advertising and children” Share with the class where you found the eBook searches Choose an eBook from your search and investigate the contents etc. Is it appropriate for your essay? Minimise this page for next task 5mins

Introduction to Referencing Find the APA referencing guide for AESC and open it. Look through the guide and see what information it gives you. What are the two types of referencing you need to do for an essay/paper? 5mins

Task 2 What is the main information you need for the reference list from a book, article, eBook etc? Find referencing guidelines for eBooks Go to the eBook you chose from your last task and record the information for your reference list– follow the guide for referencing an eBook in your reference list. Try copying and pasting a section from the eBook onto a word doc. What do you notice? 10mins

Review Name three important points from the “Internet Detective” website Where did you find eBooks and the reference guide? What is the main information you need for citing a source in your reference list? How can you make sure you reference correctly? 5mins

Directed Study / Homework Create a checklist on a word document: To evaluate a website Make a rating scale on the same document and rate the different sources from excellent to poor E.G. website, database, books, ebooks and any other you can include. to lecturer/upload to wiki, etc.
