Module 6 Intellectual and language stimulation

Module 6: Intellectual and language stimulation Stories, rhymes and songs are important in developing babies and young children’s language and communication skills Babies and young children can understand simple adult communication/language long before they can talk and need this kind of language to be able to learn language and express themselves

Module 6: Intellectual and language stimulation Communication is the process through which babies and young children and parents bond and is one of the foundation blocks for the babies and young child’s development in other areas Parents must spend time as well as effort in the process of language development – do not rush the process

Module 6: Intellectual and language stimulation Each baby and young child is unique and will develop language and communication levels at their own pace The milestones that children have to reach at certain ages are only guidelines. Each child is unique and develops at his/her own pace.

Module 6: Intellectual and language stimulation A child starts using just words, then a combination of a few words and then only short sentences. Most children are able to communicate quite complex ideas by the age of three. To be able to communicate children should be talked to and listened to.

Module 6: Intellectual and language stimulation Communication does consist of the spoken language as well as non-spoken aspects such as eye contact and gestures When intellectual development takes place it helps with language development, memory development, thinking, reasoning and problem solving
