GENESIS Chapter 21 THE BIRTH OF ISAAC I.       Introduction A. Abraham and Sarah’s “default plan”.

1. Say they were only brother and sister. a)   A king would have a husband killed. b)   Into her nineties, Sarah was beautiful. (1) Pharaoh and King Abimelech desired Sarah.

(2) King David an example. 2. The Lord prevented Abimelech from touching Sarah. a)   He made things right. (1) Abraham said he was afraid.

(a) Decided to lie rather than trust the Lord. (i)   We begin are to walk by faith! (ii)  1Job 4:18 (iii)   Even with failures, Abraham was a man of faith.   B. Isaac = son of promise!

1. Fulfillment of God’s promise. II. Genesis 21:1-8 A. Similarities to birth of Jesus. 1. Isaac = “laughter.”

a)  Sarah knew they would laugh! b)   She was 90. III. Genesis 21:9-11 A. “Stress” in this divided family.

A. Abraham was rich and powerful. B. Genesis 21:22-34 1. They enter into a peace treaty. 2. Next week the Lord ask Abraham to sacrifice Isaac!
