The Awakening Author: Kelley Armstrong Publisher: HarperTeen Year of Publication: 2009 Maronda Todd Book two of the Darkest Powers Trilogy

Introduction Imagine running from someone who wants to do nothing but keep you in. Chloe, Derek Simon, Tori, and Liz are all supernatural's who want answers that the Edison’s Group Home is not giving them. They have escaped in the night hiding in dark allies, and any place where they cant be detected. They are searching for Simon and Derek’s father’s friend who they believe can help.

Protagonist Chloe Saunders Chloe is the main character. She is faced with not only worrying about being caught by the Edison group, but also summoning ghosts with her power of being a necromancer. She faces many troubles in controlling her powers and being stronger than the Edison group.

Antagonist Dr. Davidoff, Mrs. Enright, and the Edison Group These people will stop at no point to stay in control of Chloe and her friends who they have genetically enhanced at birth. When the group of supernatural's escape this group must get them back before they learn the truth if the lie they have been feed.

Central Conflict The central conflict of the novel is Chloe and her friends are being hunted by the Edison group. Along their journey they are faced with trying to understand their powers and say alive at whatever the cost.

Minor Characters Derek Souza Derek is the second most dynamic character of the book. He and Chloe spend a lot of time together. Other than Derek’s brother, Simon, Chloe is the only person Derek trusts enough to help him with his partial and first shifts into a werewolf.

Minor Characters Simon Bae Simon is the witty sorcerer. He is also Derek’s brother. Simon is the level headed one of the group. He can find a way to resolve problems while having fun.

Minor Characters Elizabeth "Liz" Delaney Liz is a difficult character seeing as she is a ghost. Chloe is the only person who can see her. Liz uses he power of telekinesis to help Chloe out of some of the problems she faces.

Minor Characters Victoria "Tori" Enright Tori starts off as the snobby mother’s girl who has an unhealthy need to get rid of Chloe. As more complications with her mother comes to the surface this young witch sets out to stop her mother and the Edison group.

What They Say “Apart from the escaping, and the running, and the half-rotted zombies, The Awakening concentrates on trust with the unspoken question of “Who can Chloe trust?” running as a recurring theme through out the story.” ng.html

What They Say (Continued) The Awakening is a dark, gripping, and highly suspenseful read will have readers staying up to all hours of the night and leave them desperate for the next installment! 5-the-awakening

What I Say This book quickly captures the reader in the mystery that the characters are involved in. Every problem they encounter makes the reader cringe and continue reading as fast as they possibly can. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes action and mystery.
