CZECH CARP Karolína Koukalová a Šárka Nevědělová

In the Czech Republic we eat fish soup and fried carp with potato salad at Christmas. It has been a tradition since 17 th century.

There are areas with ponds in the Czech Republic where carps are bred.

In autumn ponds are fished out and carps are sold.

Kids love keeping carps in bath before Christmas.

We must kill the carp one day before Christmas 

We fry the carp and eat it with potato salad for dinner on Christmas Eve (24 th December).

When you do not want to kill the carp, you can let it go into the river. But somebody says the carp dies anyway.

Legend says that the carp scale brings good luck. When somebody has it in a wallet or under the plate on Christmas Eve, they will have a lot of money.

Karolína a Šárka Thank you for watching!
