SA Economic Indicators for the month of July 2013 © 2013 Trade Intelligence SA Economic Indicators Retail Trade Sales (NOTE: As part of an improvement programme in economic statistics, StatsSA has introduced changes in the reference year for constant price estimates from 2008 to 2012 prices. Graphs representing both 2008 and 2012 prices are provided in previous slides.) COMMENTARY Retail trade sales in real terms (constant 2012 prices) increased by 1.9% YOY in June 2013 Retail trade sales increased by 3.3% in Q2/2013 compared to Q2/2012 The highest annual growth rates were recorded for: -Retailers in hardware, paint and glass (5.3%) -All ‘other’ retailers (4.9%) -Retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (4%) The main contributors to the 1.9% increase were: -Retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (contributing 0.8%) -All ‘other’ retailers (contributing 0.5%) -General dealers and retailers in hardware, paint and glass (both contributing 0.4%) Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales remained stable between May and June This followed month-on-month changes of 2.1% in May and -0.4% in April Seasonally adjusted retail trade sales increased by 1% in Q2/2013 compared to Q1/2013
