My summer volunteer work at Latin America’s busiest and most modern HIV/AIDS Clinic

The Clinic Established in 2000 for the population of the Federal District/Mexico City – A total population of about 20,000,000 – Approx 30% of the estimated 180,000 HIV patients in the country are in the Mexico City Metropolitan area Is a multi-specialty Clinic, providing: Internal Medicine OB-GYN Psychiatry Dermatology Etc.

Focus on Prevention Educational materials/ Seminars Condoms: About 1,000,000/year Tests: around 30,000 / year Treatment for thousands of regular patients, inmates, sex workers, and victims of sexual violence.

CENSIDA Is the government agency that oversees HIV/AIDS care and prevention Provides universal access to ART through the National Health System Most infected in Mexico are MSM and Sex Workers Also provides PEP in the Federal District

My Experience On my own Contact made through Salud.gob.mx – Very little English spoken at clinic, though most physicians read it Volunteer work- 4 weeks – Prison program – Paps for Prostitutes – Program for Victims of Sexual Violence – Translation work – Procurer of the Federal District
