WGSIP meetingBuenos Aires, July 2010 INSTITUT CATALÀ DE CIÈNCIES DEL CLIMA ENSEMBLES forecasts: ocean and atmosphere THREDDS (OPeNDAP) public server at ECMWF Ocean analyses Ocean variables available CHFP data dissemination Based on the ENSEMBLES server

WGSIP meetingBuenos Aires, July 2010 INSTITUT CATALÀ DE CIÈNCIES DEL CLIMA THREDDS server at CIMA CHFP data dissemination Other servers: CIMA and APCC + CCCma and CAWCR.

WGSIP meetingBuenos Aires, July 2010 INSTITUT CATALÀ DE CIÈNCIES DEL CLIMA Several data servers, no unified view. Archive management: informal protocol, some internal standards, unclear level of service. Scarce metadata of each experiment. Incomplete list of standard names (CF). Suboptimal data transfer and no check-summing. Data discovery inexistent. No visualisation tools. CHFP data dissemination: now

WGSIP meetingBuenos Aires, July 2010 INSTITUT CATALÀ DE CIÈNCIES DEL CLIMA Access to distributed data (grid) and processing resources as developed by ESGF. Archive management: universal protocols, standards, service, information sharing, as promoted by GO-ESSP. Common Information Model (CIM), which Metafor has developed and already includes s2d experiments. Full list of standard names (CF, CMOR2). Optimized data transfer, check-summing, data discovery as in ESGF. Data access: opendap, wget, gridftp. Visualisation, better data manipulation and subsetting. How much of the CMIP5 effort should be adapted to CHFP? CHFP data dissemination: improvements

WGSIP meetingBuenos Aires, July 2010 INSTITUT CATALÀ DE CIÈNCIES DEL CLIMA ENV Underpinning work to enable provision of local scale climate information (annual to decadal timescales) In the context of emerging measured impacts of climate change the demand for climate services is growing. However, the supply of relevant climate information and forecasts at the appropriate spatial and time scale does not currently match with requirements needed on the demand side, notably for the implementation of adaptation measures. Bridging the gap between demand and supply in this field requires better data, improved models based on innovative methodologies and techniques and further studies at global, regional and local level. Research in this area should (1) contribute to the identification of the relevant climate services (from observations and model projections) (2) advance the science underpinning the delivery of climate information and (3) identify, for selected regions known for their climate vulnerability, the spatial and time scales for which climate information serving operational adaptation activities could be provided. UE call to develop climate services

WGSIP meetingBuenos Aires, July 2010 INSTITUT CATALÀ DE CIÈNCIES DEL CLIMA CLIM-RUN and ECLISE Two projects funded: CLIM-RUN (Mediterranean, 17 partners) and ECLISE (Northern Europe, 11 partners), expected period , focus over Europe.
