HYDROGEN

INFORMATION Element Symbol: H Atomic Number: 1 Atomic Mass: 1.00794 Period: 1 Ions: 1 positively charged Isotopes: 3 Group: non-metal/Group 1

LOCATION.... Located on the top left of the periodic table. It is the first element.

DISCOVERY! The discoverer of hydrogen was, Henry Cavendish. He discovered hydrogen as a gas in 1766, in London, England.

STRUCTURE The structure of a hydrogen atom. Notice it doesn’t have any neutrons.

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES Colorless Odorless Highly flammable Light in weight

PICTURE OF HYDROGEN Since hydrogen is colorless, a picture of hydrogen itself can’t ever be shown. This picture of water is as close as you can get to hydrogen.

USES! Cars can be powered by hydrogen, such as the Scorpion Hydrogen.

USES! Hydrogen is used in Hydrogen Peroxide, which is used as an antiseptic.

USES! Hydrogen is also used in specific fuels.

INTERESTING FACTS! Hydrogen burns clean! It’s non-pollutant! 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom form water! It is the most abundant element in the world! This element is 14 times lighter than the air we breathe!

INTERESTING FACTS! Atomic weights were based on hydrogen at one point of time! It is the oldest element in the universe! Until 1783, hydrogen was used to fill balloons! Hydrogen takes up 75 percent of the Earth’s mass!
