A Short Story by Roald Dahl The Landlady A Short Story by Roald Dahl

Goals You can explain in your own words the story The Landlady. You know what rendition or rendering means. You can make a rendition or a rendering of the story.

Which woman looks like our “landlady”? B. C. Discuss with your partner. Which one does she look most like, why?

Which one is Billy Weaver? Discuss with your partner. Which one does he look most like, why?

Rendering vs. Rendition Rendering and rendition are forms of making new art out of another piece of work – an interpretation. Rendering is for literary works to a visual art form. A Rendition is a literary work to a dramatic art form (theatre / film).

Choose your own assignment… Artist : Imagine you are a graphic novelist. You will now create a comic book that depicts Roald Dahl’s story. –OR- Design a cover using at least 5 story elements. Writer: You are a writer who is unhappy with the perspective of the story. Rewrite the story from the Landlady´s point-of-view (or possibly from her other guests’ point-of-view). Director: You love this story and want to put it on the big screen (film or TV). Write a script that depicts Billy’s first evening. Who would you cast? Think of your own. Ask for permission!

Plan! And Work! Take two minutes to choose your idea. You may work individually, or in groups of two pupils. If you work in a group, plan who will do what. Prepare to tell the class what you did with your work. Your final work will be due (ELO – Fronter)

Present Your work to another group Share your work until now with a neighbor. Remember, you work is due before next class. You can scan in handwritten work at the school’s library.
