Working with HTML Code Using the “Getting started with HTML” activity on the MGS 351 website – Designed for MIS majors What you really need to know: – How to edit the webpage by adding & editing basic HTML code – This code is already written for you on the MGS351 sample webpage CLICK HERECLICK HERE HTML code help (on my discussion board)

Working with HTML Code To quickly view the HTML code for your webpage (or any webpage) – right click on the page – Select “page view source” – Or to view your code Open with Notepad from public_html file on z drive (explained on next slide)

Easy How-To’s Editing your webpage – Click on “Getting started with HTML” – Right Click on the “index.html” link and “save link as” Save under your public_HTML folder – Open your public_HTML folder Click on the index.html file (it should display the website you just had saved from) – Now close this website Now RIGHT click on the index.html file – Open with “notepad” – This is how and where you will edit your code

Easy How-To’s Now delete all the code in your index.html file (it must be open with notepad here) Go to the sample MGS website: CLICK HERECLICK HERE Right click on the page and select “view source code” Copy the code that pops up Paste that code in your index.txt file – (the “.txt” indicates your file is open in notepad and not a web browser aka “.html”)

Easy How-To’s Now Save & close your file in notepad Re-open your index.html file – If it is displayed as index.txt please rename it to index.html – Your website should now look very similar to the sample MGS 351 website This is how you edit your html code – It is as simple as deleting, copying, & pasting in notepad

Code Editing using HTML Help In the HTML code help file – I break down the code in the sample MGS website – I added additional code and explained that – These will meet your minimum requirements for your final project website – It is up to you to go above and beyond doing your own html research
