Lion killer returns

Walter Palmer, the American dentist vilified worldwide for killing a prized African lion, will return to his Bloomington, Minnesota, practice Tuesday. Palmer's office reopened several weeks ago without him and now he's decided the time is right for him to start back to work. "I'm a health professional," Palmer told newspaper reporters. "I need to get back to my staff and my patients, and they want me back. That's why I'm back.” Palmer has kept a low profile during the six weeks since he was identified as the big-game hunter who killed Cecil the lion near a Zimbabwe national park. Cecil was killed in early July. The Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force said in July that Cecil was lured out of the national park and shot with a compound bow. "I had no idea that the lion I took was a known, local favorite, was collared and part of a study until the end of the hunt," Palmer said late July in a statement. "I relied on the expertise of my local professional guides to ensure a legal hunt.” Officials in the African nation say they want Palmer extradited to face charges.

In Other News Still dealing with the symptoms of a severe Grade 3 concussion, former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Adrian Coxson announced his retirement from football Monday. Coxson was an undrafted rookie out of Stony Brook and also spoke about his excitement about being on the receiving end of passes from Packers superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Unfortunately, his career was derailed when he suffered a concussion on the third day of Green Bay's training camp. He said, “I'm retiring because I'm still having symptoms and my health is more important to me than the game of football.... It's been recommended to me by two neurologists and two doctors to retire from football. The next hit to my head could possibly kill me or be life damaging.” American Dahlia Yehia went to Nepal to help in the aftermath of April's devastating earthquake. She was an artist and a teacher. Police say she was beaten to death last month by a man who was hosting her in his home. Authorities are still searching for her body. A man who once jumped a fence at the White House was shot and killed at a Pennsylvania courthouse Tuesday after slashing a sheriff's deputy with a knife, an official said. Curtis Smith, 34, attacked the deputy at the security entrance to the Chester County Justice Center in West Chester, according to a statement from the office of Chester County District Attorney Thomas Hogan. A second deputy drew a weapon and shot Smith. It was not clear why he was at the courthouse. Brad Anderson, who created the long-running comic strip "Marmaduke," about a mischievous, overly curious Great Dane and his loving family, has died at the age of 91.
