Calendar Math Through Calendar we focus on Number Sense The Calendar allows patterns to be thoroughly reviewed Other Items by grade level 3rd: Skip counting, greater than or less than 4th: Factors and multiples 5th: Fractions and decimals, Measurement During Calendar Math, most teachers use “Number Talks”

Number Talks  Number Talks: this part of the every day calendar allows students to build mental math skills.  Students are encouraged to use different strategies to build their fluency with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  This is a great way to build mathematical skills that can be applied to other areas.

Fluency  Fluency  What is fluency?  We use flashcards, technology, partnering, skip counting.  What is the difference between a strategy and fluency?  Some examples of strategies  arrays, pictures, and manipulatives.
