The DBQ final draft is due Thursday. It can be typed or hand-written. This is a test grade.

Objective: Students will evaluate the decision by Britain to tax the American colonies after 1763 by describing the responses of both the British and the American colonists to British legislation. Drill: “Young man, there is America-which at this day serves for little more than to amuse you with stories of savage men and uncouth manners; yet shall, before you taste of death, show itself equal to the whole of that commerce which now attracts the envy of the world” Edmund Burke

Take out the French and Indian War Chart Why is it known as the French and Indian War? What is it known as in Europe? Identify the major outcomes of the French and Indian War.

“for fire and water are not more heterogeneous than the different colonies in North America. Nothing can exceed the jealousy and emulation which they posses in regard to each other….In short…were they left to themselves there would soon be a civil war from one end of the continent to the other, while the Indians and Negros would… impatiently watch the opportunity of exterminating them all together.” What does this quote say about the current belief around colonial unity and independence?

Proclamation of 1763 What did this do for the British North American Colonists?

Students will complete the British Imperial Policy chart with American and British Reactions.

Students will read the testimony of Ben Franklin before the House of Commons in London. How does Franklin report the impact of the Stamp Act on the American colonists?

Assign roles for the debate on whether the colonies should separate from England

Students will identify the critical events of the 1760s by completing the 1760s decade chart
