Let’s See How to Answer Contradictions

The Genealogy of Jesus

Blanks on Page 12: Matthew gives the legal genealogy through Jesus’ stepfather Joseph, while Luke recorded His descent through Mary.

But Doesn’t Luke start like Matthew by saying Jesus was the son of Joseph? Luke says, “being, as was supposed, the son of Joseph” So after the word “Joseph”, the passage switches to Mary’s genealogy

1 or 2 Demoniacs? A well-known “contradiction”

But in 3 of the gospels, Jesus eats the Passover meal, which included the lamb! Doesn’t that mean the lambs were slain the day before He died?

Exodus 12:6 - Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month [Nisan]. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight Answer: Nisan 14 – they’re roasted and consumed at the evening meal The feast continues for 7 days longer during which time Jewish people are not to eat anything with leaven in it

In Matthew 26, Mark 14, and Luke 22 Jesus sends His disciples to prepare the Passover on the 1 st day of Unleavened Bread (8 day feast dating back to Exodus) So, according to Matt. 26:17, Mark 14:12, and Luke 22:7 – 8; Jesus was crucified the day after the Passover lambs were slain

Sorry but no Mark 14:12 and Luke 22:7 both state that the disciples asked where to prepare the Passover on the same day the lambs were slain All 3 gospels state it was on the 1 st day of Unleavened Bread

No, it actually comes through misunderstandings of statements in John’s gospel Now we can answer: Doesn’t John say that they wanted His body taken away because it was “the preparation” for the Sabbath? Doesn’t John say the Jewish leaders didn’t want to go into Pilate’s judgment hall because they didn’t want to be defiled for the Passover meal?

“Therefore, because it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away” Many think this means special preparations for the Passover but it’s nothing about the Passover Our Saturday is known to the Jewish people as the Sabbath, Friday is known as the Preparation All we can gather from the passage is that it was Friday afternoon.

“28 Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Praetorium, and it was early morning. But they themselves did not go into the Praetorium, lest they should be defiled, but that they might eat the Passover.” Wait, this looks like they hadn’t yet eaten the Passover!

If this passage were referring to the Passover meal itself, there wouldn’t have been a concern about not being able to eat of it. Lev. 11 says ritual uncleanness lasted only until the evening and could be removed by washing with water Since the Passover supper occurred after sunset, anyone ritually unclean could simply have bathed before eating it

He uses the word “Passover” much more loosely than the other three writers It could mean the specific day when the lambs were slain, but -- as confirmed by Lk. 22:1 -- it could also refer to the whole eight- day feast of unleavened bread. Luke 22:1 – “ 1 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called Passover.”

“Mardi Gras” can be used to refer to the entire Carnival season in New Orleans However, “Mardi Gras” is actually a specific day They can say that they are celebrating “Mardi Gras” though the actual day may be 2 weeks away

Any meal during the “Passover” days could be referred to as eating the Passover meal So, what were they concerned about? There would have been time for a bath before a night time meal But not the Fri. afternoon meal

He ate the Passover meal the day the Lambs were killed He died the after the death of the Lambs Whatever scripture says, with that I agree

Did the people with him hear the voice or did they not?

Comparing the 2 Passages Acts 9:7Acts 22:9 And the men who journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice but seeing no one. And those who were with me indeed saw the light and were afraid, but they did not hear the voice of Him who spoke to me. “Hearing a Voice” vs. “did not hear a voice” Ahh!!! Contradiction in my Bible! How can it not be?
