Persuasive Techniques

Bandwagon To persuade people to do something because everybody else is doing it! Example: Mom, please get me the new Wii, EVERYBODY in my whole class has one. I can’t be the ONLY one without it!

Emotional Appeal The writer uses words or pictures to appeal to the reader’s emotions. They may appeal to positive emotions or negative emotions. Example: What would you do if all of your things were lost in a fire? Get the Save-All fireproof safe and protect your valuables.

Testimonial The author uses famous people or quotes from famous people to persuade you. Example: P. Diddy and Jessica Simpson on the Proactive Acne Commercials

Expert Opinion The author uses facts and statistics from experts to persuade you. Example: 4 out of 5 Dentists recommend brushing with Colgate toothpaste
