Thesis Revision Activity As you watch the video, think about what is Allie’s dilemma? What does she need to do that she isn’t doing?

What makes a good thesis? In the video, Allie is unable to make a choice or pick a side. In persuasive essays, thesis statements need to do the following: State the stance (or pick a side) Give clear reasons for that stance With a partner, each of you will read your thesis from your persuasive draft out loud. While you’re listening, make note of the following: Does it take a side? Are there clear reasons?

Thesis Revision Once you get feedback from your partner, re-write your thesis. Make sure you have a clear stance and reasons. Then proofread it for grammar and spelling. When you are finished, turn it in to the teacher.

How do author’s persuade? When an author appeals to a reader’s emotions, this is the persuasive technique called pathos. In the videos you watched today, Noah is trying to persuade Allie to choose him using an impassioned speech and fear. He is using pathos. Authors use persuasive techniques in their writing no matter what genre they are writing in. Today, we will compare and contrast how persuasion is used in both poetry & nonfiction.
