PERSUASION MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKING

How is Shia LaBeouf being “persuasive” or “inspirational”? Are his speaking techniques effective ? “JUST DO IT”

HOW IS MOTIVATIONAL OR INSPIRATIONAL SPEAKING PERSUASIVE? Inspirational speeches seek to persuade an audience to strive to reach specific goals or to live life a specific way. Commencement addresses are some of the best examples of this type of speaking, as they put forth ideas about how to live, how to think, or goals to work toward. This style of speaking also requires considering your audience, using effective speech techniques, and providing a general takeaway.

THESIS STATEMENTS Motivational and inspirational speeches have some type of central takeaway, moral, or message. In other words, they have a thesis statement. Example: J.K. Rowling’s 2008 Harvard Commencement Speech:2008 The key to living “very good lives,” is to find the benefits in failure and to remember the importance of imagination.
