Contributions Author, Conservationist, Naturalist 1890: He wrote articles in Century magazine that pressured Congress to create Yosemite National Park. He also pushed Congress to create Sequoia, Mount Ranier, Petrified Forest, Grand Canyon National Parks. 1892: He founded the Sierra Club to protect Yosemite National Park. He was president of the Club until his death. 1901: He wrote Our National Parks, which caused Teddy Roosevelt to visit Yosemite in This led to the creation of a National Park System. After traveling the country as a young man, Muir decided that the Sierra Nevada Mountains were the prettiest region of the country. He then travelled the world after getting married. After setling down, he wrote over 300 articles and 10 major books.
