The creator of you tube is Jawed Karim was a student at St. Paul ’ s Central High School who had a knack for computers. YouTube turned out to be something quite different than what its creators earlier imagined. Karim explained to a newspaper reporter: “ Basically I suggested a dating website based on videos... We launched in April 2005 and it didn ’ t take off. People didn ’ t use it (YouTube) very much. We looked at our product and realized we should open it to any contact. They made it easier to post and locate videos, regardless of use or intent. The product took off. At the public discussion, Karim stressed the importance of timing. Conditions must be right for a new product to be successful. If YouTube had been launched in 2003, it would not have been successful because not all the required conditions were then in place.

The tsunami in the Indian Ocean showed the importance of videos taken on cell phones when video-equipped media could not be on the scene. All this amateur-made video created a backlog of materials waiting to be used in personally expressive ways on the Internet. Before 2004, said Karim, you couldn’t send videos by because they required too much bandwidth. Broadband capability greater increased for home users in the period between 2004 and Also the hosting costs for dedicated servers came down. More people were able to send and post videos, fueling a demand for YouTube. You tube site offers a free service for sharing videos. Among the content that you can find are clips and pieces of movies, series, sports videos, music, hobbies, and all sorts of personal home movies. It accepts a wide variety of formats, including. mpeg and. avi, which are used by digital cameras and camcorders. At first arose, of course all the problems and legal implications of having videos of shows and movies are subject to copyright, but soon the parties involved in the marketing of this material have realized the potential promotional site, and now inclination of chains like CBS is to generate strategic alliances with YouTube to promote their material.

The social phenomenon that has generated is such that many users to provide their personal videos have become a "celebrity" guests including major television talk shows. The other side of the coin is that it has reached the point of extortion popular these users to modify or remove their clips on the site. Using Adobe Flash technology, the burden of the videos on You tube is extremely fast and not have to open external programs for viewing images, which may partly explain the rapid acceptance and the growing number of users
