Quick intro - what is the area addressed? Aircraft Systems are large complex systems co-developed by many partners Efficiency and reliability key issues. Technology and methods developed in Crescendo enables – Reduce leadtime and re-work – Increase virtual testing and certification – Reduce lead time in development Date (DD mon 200x) as footermeeting / event title as footerPage 3

Presentation Topics 2. The approach 3. Behaviour Digital Aircraft as “vehicle of research” 4. Dissemination Forums 5. Questions 1. What is CRESCENDO Page 4

62 Partners from 13 countries o The Swedish academic representation consists of Luleå University of Technology and Linköping University. o Swedish company partners are Volvo Aero Corporation, SAAB and Eurostep AB. Budget: 55 M€ 3 years EU FP7 Project Page 5

The overall aim of the project Date (DD mon 200x) as footermeeting / event title as footerPage 6 To model and simulate a complete aircraft in a virtual collaborative environment. By conducting more and more of the development work in a virtual environment, from early concept to certification, the number of physical prototypes is reduced, while the possibilities for better integration between all collaborative partners in the entire value chain increase, thus attaining a halving of the development time.

Crescendo Ambition COLLABORATIVE ROBUST ENGINEERING using SIMULATION CAPABILITY ENABLING NEXT DESIGN OPTIMISATION The ambition of the consortium is to make a step change in the way that Modelling & Simulation activities are carried out, by multi-disciplinary teams working as part of a collaborative enterprise, in order to develop new aeronautical products in a more cost and time efficient manner. Page 12 BDA; Overall Scope & Key Areas of Improvement Value Generation - Value Generation - Value Generation - Value Generation Linked to PLM Behavioural Digital Aircraft

Why do we need the BDA? We have proposed the Behavioural Digital Aircraft (BDA) as the technology that will support CRESCENDO ambition Benefits will come from using the BDA capabilities The CRESCENDO Use Cases and Test Cases are a means to this end and should illustrate the benefits: –By describing “as-is” challenges in Modelling & Simulation, and the anticipated “to-be” situation –By building the criteria to measure how using the BDA will contribute to the High Level Objectives 10% reduction in development lifecycle duration 10% reduction in development lifecycle cost 50% reduction in rework 20% reduction in cost of physical tests Page 13

Page 16 Innovation & Expected Deliverables CRESCENDO has the ambition to deliver the means for collaborative multi- disciplinary teams to build the Behavioural Digital Aircraft (BDA), covering preliminary design, detailed definition, test and certification phases of the product development lifecycle. The proposed BDA requires innovation in three main elements:  Model Store (or Warehouse): this includes a Common Architecture of Models, configured to provide the complete behavioural (functional) view of the product  Simulation Factory: this includes innovative multi-disciplinary design and Information Systems services and capabilities  Quality Centre: this includes methods to support the Verification, Validation & Accreditation (VV&A) of models

Dissemination Forums The work in CRESCENDO is disseminated internally among partners during work using deliverables and workshops The external dissemination is performed using Forums where interested can participate in presentations, company visits, workshops and demonstrations Page 17 Pictures from latest VIVCAE Forum
