I not only have an “unusual” look, and an usual room, I’m not the usual conventional teacher and that is good for you! *Get content area teachers a list of accommodations *Order large print /Braille text and appropriate equipment/materials *Give instruction in using equipment for your vision *Administer some tests to see what’s appropriate. *Open/write your IEP *Visit classes as a consultant

You just need a few changes to do the same as the other students  Sit closer to the board  Have print enlarged or Brailled  Tell your teacher when something is hard to see  Use special equipment when you need it!

Means you have a “resource class” for students with visual impairments.  Class scheduled as “Visual Impairments Study Skills.”  Learn to use special equipment and materials.  Get help with homework.  Get extra help with class work.  Learn self advocacy.  Learn self-help skills.

Means you are in a self-contained class with a place for your things in that teacher’s class. Your teacher gets consultation.  You still receive services from a V.I. teacher.  Your teacher is helped to find the best materials and equipment for you.  You may not be pulled from a class but the V.I. teacher may see you in someone else’s class…OR  The V/I. teacher may only talk to your teacher(s) to make sure accommodations are being made for you.
