If you love to READ, we NEED you!!  Battle of the Books is a middle school competition that is held each year all over the state. Are you up for a little challenge? In the spring, our team will be competing against Red Oak Middle, Edwards Middle, Parker Middle and Nash Central Middle.  Our first meeting will be on September the 1 st at 8:00 in the Media Center. Signing In  It is very important that you sign in and out when coming to the Media Center. This is a safety issue. The only exception is when a teacher brings an entire class.  When signing in, please write your first and last name, your teacher’s name, the purpose for coming to the Media Center and the time that you arrive.  Students are usually given approximately 10 minutes to make a book selection.

Circulation Desk  As you enter the Media Center, you will pass the circulation desk where books can be checked in or out.  You will find the book drop located between the two computers.

Reference Section Reference Section Our reference section is located in the back of our Media Center. Here you will find a large selection of reference books to help you with your class assignments and projects.

Periodicals and Newspapers As you enter the double doors the periodicals and newspapers are displayed on your left.

Your Media Center Has…  Books, magazines, newspapers, laptops, and a computer lab  Work tables, reading areas, and research area

Book Selection Book Selection  The fiction shelves begin to your left beside where the magazines are located. They continue along the outside wall. Look at the wall signs for assistance.  On the L shaped bookcase in the center of the room, you will find our nonfiction selections. 000 starts on the far back side of the bookcase with the last call numbers being in the 800s. The 900s are shelved on the back wall. Here you will also find the biographies.  All of our paperbacks are shelved on the short bookcase under the windows.

When and how do you come to the Media Center?  Most of the time you will come individually or with a small group during your Language Arts class.  We operate on a flex schedule allowing you a chance to get books whenever you need them.  Other teachers may bring you for research or to work as a group on one of the computer programs we use.

Checkout Procedure Checkout Procedure  You may check out 2 books for a period of two weeks. With our flex scheduling and your teacher’s permission, you may return the book before the end of the two weeks.  If you have a book checked out from another school, you will not be allowed to check out a book here until your account is cleared.  You must have your book with you to have it renewed.

The computers in our Media Center are used for a variety of reasons…  to take AR tests  to work on Study Island  to work on ClassScape  to work on class assignments  to work on projects  to complete research assignments  REMEMBER you must have your Internet permission form on file.
