Welcome To The Stone Age! By Lily Simpson

Ice Age 2,000,000 years ago there was just ice. Then suddenly the chilling ice began to thaw. Land appeared, Britain was covered with colossal forests and deer walked around like they were in a maze.

Fabulous Flint In the Stone Age the people discovered a stone called flint. Flint is hard but you can shape it easily. They used flint to make tools so they could kill animals and carve things.

Finding Food Long ago, people had to gather berries and nuts or kill animals. They would learn from each other dying. They would use tools they made to kill. People caught fish with spears.

Skara Brae Skara Brae is in the Orkney Island which sits on the north coast of Scotland. Amazingly, Skara Brae was built in 3000 BC in the Neolithic period. In 1850 a heavy storm stripped away dirt and sand which reveled the village.

Inside the houses Inside the houses there is normally a fire place is the middle, beds built into the wall and stone shelves called a dresser. The dresser was in front of you when you walk in, possibly to show off special tools or prize possessions. The shape of the older houses were circles but the shape off the newer house were a rectangle shape with curved corners. The doors and the windows could be bolted shut.

Things found in Skara Brae Architects have found examples of jewellery: pendants, necklaces and beads. Animal bones, weapons and carved stones were also spotted. The lack of weapons meant their life was peaceful.

Stone Age Cave Art To celebrate good hunts, the stone age people painted on the cave walls. Sometimes they painted on the walls before they went to hunt to make the animal come. They would get their paint from stones that could be crushed up, possibly charcoal was used from the fire.

Grimes Grave Grimes Grave is a flint mine and there is over 400 pits in the ground. Did you know that the flint mines were dug over 5,000 years ago ? In one of the flint mines there was found two dead women bodies.

Stonehenge Stonehenge was built in 2600 BC. The most well-known stone monument in Britain. Surprisingly, it took 1500 years to make Stonehenge! Stonehenge is over 5,000 years old, that is older than Egyptian pyramids.

Thank you for watching!
