6 PHASE 1: preliminary analysis The Analysis will concern historical and cultural heritages of the small alpine towns and underline architectural and urban characteristics of rural buildings. historical and cultural heritages of the territory concerned;historical and cultural heritages of the territory concerned; social-economic resources of the two Mountain Communities;social-economic resources of the two Mountain Communities; traditional jobs related to rural buildings used for production purposes;traditional jobs related to rural buildings used for production purposes; local development potentialities related to the renovation and use of rural buildings;local development potentialities related to the renovation and use of rural buildings; legislation issues concerning the renovation of rural buildingslegislation issues concerning the renovation of rural buildings The topics considered in the analysis:

7 PHASE 2: local community involvement PHASE 3: collection and assessment of local requests  the local communities are invited to workshops for express their needs and indicate the buildings to be restore  a set of questions are prepared to collect the local requests and needs concerning the restoration of rural buildings  the relevant requests and needs are considered in the implementation of the case-projects Activities of the Phases : 2 initial workshops 2 initial workshops 2 mid-term workshops 1 final regional conference bottom-up approach The implementation of the two case-projects will be based on a bottom-up approach:

8 PHASE 4: data collection and identification of rural buildings In this phase the experts will provide to collect data concerned the main characteristic of the rural buildings and to identify those that have an evident historical value. 9 PHASE 5: definition of renovation and valorization criteria of abandoned buildings The aim of this phase is to identify new possible uses of the rural buildings and problems linked to their re-use. Analysis of legislationAnalysis of legislation Identification of re-use criteria and techniquesIdentification of re-use criteria and techniques Working proposals to preserve peculiar features of alpine landscapesWorking proposals to preserve peculiar features of alpine landscapes Outputs: “Guidelines for renovation and optimum use of rural abandoned buildings” “Handbook of new building uses, working tools and best practices” The topics of this phase are:

10 PHASE 6: feasibility projects The criteria defined in the previous phases will be applied to specific buildings as explanatory examples. The experts will draw up the “communication plan” which will provide the following outputs: Some of these outputs will be handed out during the workshops and the final conference, some others will be published on the project web site
