A Little Story Time...

Use the blocks as tiles and solve this problem the way Pythagoras did in the story To get from his high school to his home, Mike travels 3.0 miles East and then 4.0 miles North. What is the length of the shortest distance between Mike’s home and the high school?

Is there an easier way to find the length of the hypotenuse without drawing with blocks? There is a simple formula that you can use that means the same thing as drawing squares on each side and adding them together.
