Happy Friday!  Get out a book  Sit Silently  READ!!

Warm Up – Page 1(or 2 or 3) ● Write down today’s date on the left hand side. 1. Choose the best word to complete this sentence: ___________ going to meet us in the lobby after the movie. (Their, There, They’s, They’re) 2. What is the meaning of this figure of speech? When I asked her for a loan, she said, “Go fly a kite.”

Figurative Language Practice  On the handout, identify each piece of text as a simile, metaphor, hyperbole, or personification.  Explain each example using complete sentences.  #8 –procession – like a parade  #4 – grievous – intense, overwhelming  After you have completed the ten examples, choose one that you will draw.  On a piece of white paper, draw what the figurative language literally says. For example, if it said “fame is a bee” you might draw the word fame with wings and black and yellow stripes, and a stinger.

Homework  Read at least 20 minutes EVERY night  Review the stems for lists 1-5 to be ready for a test on Monday, November 23.  Have all left side pages complete to be checked on Monday, November 23 during your test.
