Presentation transcript:

Men wore a knee-length tunic (Chilton), either sleeveless or short-sleeved. Roman men wore a cloak over their tunic, which was like a wide shawl that was draped over the shoulder and carefully wrapped around the body. Important Romans dressed in a long robe called a toga.

What the Romans believed The Romans were very superstitious. They believed that good or bad luck was given by the gods – if the gods were happy then you would have good luck but if they were unhappy then your luck would be bad. There were many different gods and each of them looked after different things

Each God and what they had This is God Jupiter he was the god of the sky and the most important god for the Romans. This is God Neptune was the god of the sea and kept everything under control. This is God Mars he was the God master at war. He was one of the best fighters of all times in the Roman times. This is god Bacchus. He was the god of wine. If you had ran out of wine you would have to go to him only if you was important in the roman time.

Each Goddess and what they had. This is Venus she is the goddess of love. This is goddess Ceres and she was the goddess of agriculture.

The Romans worshipped their gods in a temple. They made sacrifices of animals and precious items to their gods. They believed that when an Emperor died he became a god and so a sacrifice was also made to the Emperor. The Romans also worshipped Gods in their own homes. Every day or at least 5-6 days a week.

There was a significant difference between the south-eastern half of Britannia (the Roman name for Britain) and the north- western region. In the south-east Roman style country homes known as villas were established. In the north and west of Britain, few villas have been found. Not all Romans lived in villas. The majority of people living in the country lived in houses in the style of the Celtic houses. These houses were usually round and made of timber and thatched. Did you know:Only one percent of people in Roman Britain lived in villas.

A lot of building material has survived from the Roman period, but mainly for buildings constructed of stone and tile. There is little evidence of wattle and daub buildings, which are thought to have been used throughout the Roman period. Roman houses, especially ones belonging to rich people, were so well built that the remains of villas and even towns have been found.
