1. Handouts: * None 2. Homework: * Read AR book minutes daily & record progress * In-class assignment—Do one of three writing assignments on Lit book p. 197: 1) Comparison–Contrast Essay (see book for details) 2) Story in a Letter Form (see book for details) 3) Personal Essay (see book for details) 3. Assignments Due: * In-class assignment—p. 196, #1 – 4 and a Venn diagram on Janet and Toni #1, #2, #3 a), b), #4 a), b) [6 answers]

Outcomes: 1. Write a comparison-contrast essay comparing the fictional character Janet with the real-life character Toni. 2. Write your own short story but do it in letter form (or or text form), similar to the one written by Judith Viorst. [Create your own conflict—don’t imitate the one we read.] 3. Write your own personal essay that describes something you love as much as Toni Janik loves softball.

Choose one of these assignments and write down the details related to that assignment. Make your piece so compelling that we all love hearing it! Choice #1)Comparison-Contrast Essay Compare and contrast the fictional character Janet with the real-life character Toni. Include an introduction and a conclusion. Think of a creative, compelling way to express your findings. Choice #2)A Short Story in Letter Form (or or text messages) Write your own short story, but do it in letter form, similar to the story we read. The conflict should be different from the one we read. Choice #3)A Personal Essay What do you enjoy as much as Toni enjoys softball? Write about your personal passion in a way that helps your reader understand why you are so crazy about this activity.
