This poem has a continuing rhyme scheme (AA,BB) Structure of the poem this poem uses 4 stanzas with 4 lines per stanza; with a total of 12 lines This poem has a continuing rhyme scheme (AA,BB)

Biographical Information He was a junior office for an ocean liner. School ship HMS Conway is a Training navel academy, where he attended. He then start writing “Saltwater Ballads” when he became ill and had to come home.

Speaker The speaker of the poem feels the need to go back to a place where he hasn’t been in a while. He wants the day to go smoothly.

Literary elements: One is repetition John repeats several lines throughout the poem. He repeats the lines “I must go to the seas again,” and “and all I ask,”

Theme The theme of the poem is not all days can be perfect like a perfect day at sea.

Literal meaning The literal meaning of the poem is he wants to go back to the sea. He hasn't visited it in a while.

Figurative meaning The figurative meaning of the poem is about life and how he wants his life to go. As he is sleeping he is dreaming of a perfect day like the sea.

Authors purpose The purpose for this poem is saying he wants a clear almost perfect world but sometimes you cant get it.
