PUBLIC SECTOR ORGANISATIONS These are business operated by local or central government.

1.PUBLIC CORPORATIONS Run by the Chairperson and a board of directors who are appointed by the government. E.g. The BBC Must provide a quality service and serve the public interest. Financed by the government and own funds (e.g. license fee)

2.LOCAL GOVERNMENT RUN Run by the council to meet local needs and provide a range of local services. E.g. housing, street lighting, education, leisure Financed by council tax and money from central government.

Many local council services have been contracted out to private firms For example school meals, school cleaning. This will not only cut the costs of the council but also should provide a cheaper more efficient service for the public.

3.CENTRAL GOVERNMENT RUN Run from London or Edinburgh Includes the NHS, Defence Funded by taxation
