Test Administration Dates PAWS: March 7 - 25, 2016 Reading: Grades 3 - 8 Mathematics: Grades 3 - 8 Science: Grades 4 and 8

Test Integrity We assess in order to make inferences about student achievement (e.g. “Susan is proficient in math.”) In order to make valid inferences, students must be prepared appropriately assessments must be administered appropriately assessment booklets and test items must be kept secure at all times We all share the responsibility of maintaining integrity of assessment so that we can confidently report performance to students, parents, and the public Additional materials available on WDE website: http://edu.wyoming.gov/educators/state-assessment/materials/

Appropriate Test Preparation Unpack the content standards Design local curricula and lesson plans aligned to the standards Examine the test blueprint to identify what is on the test Review the Released Test Questions (RTQs) to see how content is tested Additional materials available on WDE website: http://edu.wyoming.gov/educators/state-assessment/materials/

Before Test Administration Obtain Directions for Administration manual from your Building Coordinator Review PAWS Recommended Testing Times (DFA page 18) Review DFA in its entirety in advance Review PAWS test security procedures Review PAWS Allowable Resources Guidelines in Appendix C (DFA page 26) Ensure English learners and students with disabilities receive accommodations Additional materials available on WDE website: http://edu.wyoming.gov/educators/state-assessment/materials/ RTQs are available on the WDE PAWS webpage, behind the ‘Materials by Grade’ toggle: http://edu.wyoming.gov/educators/state-assessment/paws/

Before the Test Administration Know your testing schedule Know your testing roster(s) Know the process for picking-up and returning secure materials Sign PAWS Test Security Agreement Remove (or cover) any materials on walls or desks which may assist students with answering test questions Note: Removing or covering material – When it doubt, cover it.

During the Test Administration Clear desktops of any materials not necessary for test administration Verify that appropriate grade-level assessment is being administered Verify that students have the correct Pre-ID’d Student TAB or answer document, or assist with filling in student demographic information Read the directions exactly as written Test Administrators may answer questions about directions but not about any test items

During the Test Administration Maintain test security at all times Follow the testing schedule provided by the Building Coordinator Follow directions for test administration provided in the PAWS Directions for Administration Manual Administer all testing sections in order Report and record any test irregularities or security breaches to the Building Coordinator immediately Fill in appropriate boxes on Student TABs or answer documents for student accommodations or special forms

Some Do’s and Don’ts

More Do’s and Don’ts

After the Test Administration Maintain test security at all times Check the demographic information for all students who did not have Pre-ID labels, make sure bubbles are completely filled in Remove all draft/scratch paper, patty/tracing paper, graph/grid paper, lined paper that may be left in books Return all materials to the Building Coordinator when each test session is complete

Test Security All assessment items and responses are considered secure materials No secure materials may ever be duplicated in any way All Test Administrators must read and sign the Test Security Agreement before administering the test Disclosure of any secure materials or test items is a serious breach of test security Report any breaches of security or testing violations to the Building Coordinator immediately

Test Security cont. Distribution of testing materials will occur the day of the administration Test items may not be disclosed to anyone Test booklets are to remain in the building at all times unless permission has been granted by WDE in writing Reviewing or altering student responses is strictly prohibited Please review the Allowable Resources Guidelines in Appendix B (DFA page 75)

Some Examples of Test Security Breaches Reviewing test questions (before, during, and after testing) Failure to maintain security of test materials Discussing the test items with anyone Copying, or asking students to copy, the tests in any manner Developing a score key Allowing students to remove the secure testing materials out of the testing environment, or move the secure materials to another location

Testing Irregularities Testing irregularities may compromise the reliability and validity of the test, and could affect a school’s AYP calculations All testing irregularities, including test security breaches, must be reported to the Building Coordinator immediately All testing irregularities must be submitted on a PAWS Irregularity Report Form in Appendix G (DFA page 80)

Some Examples of Testing Irregularities Coaching students or giving answers to the students Discussing questions with students during testing Providing instruction related to the test during the test administration Observing a student copying answers from another student’s work Allowing students to have additional materials or tools not specified on an IEP or Section 504 plan Contamination (by blood or body fluid) of a Student TAB or answer document
