SFUSD Information Communications Technology (ICT) Goal SFUSD ICT programs: 1.work to increase the number of non-traditional populations in ICT programs 2.provide meaningful work-based learning experiences for students to explore careers in ICT. 3.develop the technical skills necessary for a student to be competitive with a large, global applicant base for positions in tech.

SFUSD Advisory Board Structure TECH21 (trades) Urban Agriculture Finance & Marketing Health Science Hospitality Engineering Who: teachers, industry, post-secondary, CBOs, administrators What: curriculum, work-based learning, PD, advocacy ICT Advisory Board Meeting Objective: To create work-based learning curriculum that explicitly focuses on the development of one competency.

Alright let’s get a list of competencies. (in 10 minutes) Guiding question for Industry partners and Advisory Board Members: What are the essential characteristics that you look for in an intern or entry level employee?

Now let’s create a work-based learning experience that focuses on one competency. (in 20 minutes) Guiding question for teachers and partners working side-by-side: How do you explicitly embed a soft skill (competency) into a successful work-based learning experience?

Choose one competency. Choose one work-based learning activity. Brainstorm ideas for a during activity that is embedded into the event/project that focuses on the competency. Brainstorm ideas for a pre-activity that would help students prepare for the event. Brainstorm ideas for a post-activity that will reinforce the competency after the event is over.
