Learning target: I understand reflecting and refracting telescopes Vocabulary: Reflecting vs refracting telescopes Agenda: 1.International Observe the Moon Night Tomorrow at 7:45 rain plans to meet in classroom -- 2.STEM Expo-next Wednesday 3.Let’s get organized! Some hints that will help. 4.Review of what you should know so far from Astronomy 5.Telescope jigsaw activity 6.Telescope notes SEPTEMBER 18 AND 21 AGENDA

Cool Astronomy News: Today: While you may believe that we see the same face of the moon every day (except when it’s a new moon, of course), the moon actually wobbles so that sometimes we see more of it than other times. This is called libration. Here is an animation of this over one year: moon-you-probably-didnt-know-no-its-not-blue/ OK, another aside because there are too many cool things out there: In the English language, the first use that we have of blue moon is by Cardinal Wolsey — Henry VIII's notorious adviser. Cardinal Wolsey writes about his enemies who 'would have you believe the moon is blue.' Meaning something is absurd, since the moon is not blue. COOL NEWS

Here are some tools to help you stay organized for Astronomy: 1.Use your lifelines to organize by days. Each day is a different topic so if you start with your lifeline, then put your classwork and homework behind that day’s lifeline the topic is all together. 2.At the end of a unit, take out that unit and put it all together in a file folder in the back filing cabinet. 3.Use my website which has daily agendas and activities we do so that you can check what we did any day and get copies of the work. 4.Check the board if you missed part of the daily lifeline, especially for what to turn in each day. ORGANIZATION NOTES

1. The phases of the moon 2.An idea of how you might tell time using the phases of the moon 3.The two types of telescopes and how they are used. (don’t worry if you are understand focal length or how light is reflected-this will come later) WHAT SHOULD I KNOW SO FAR IN ASTRONOMY

End of Class Question: What do you need to help you understand and succeed in Astronomy? What kinds of things can you do? What kinds of things can I do to help? END OF CLASS
