BODILY ASSUMPTION Jake Morgan John Leland Maddie Hall Rachel Walker Emilio Superstar Lopez

THE DOGMA  Pope Pius Xll, defined the dogma on November November 1,  It states “Mary, the immaculate perpetual Virgin mother of God, after the completion of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into the glory of heaven.”  It never said Mary died!!

DIFFERENCES AND MISUSES  The difference between Christ's ascension and Mary's assumption is Christ rose on his own power while Mary assumed into Heaven by God.  1 Corinthians 15:20-24 is often misused to deny the title of Mary because of the glorification of the body it doesn’t say it anywhere in scripture.

EXCEPTIONS  One exception was Elijah who was assumed into Heaven with his body.  Enoch was also taken into Heaven without dying.  After Jesus died and the gates of Heaven were opened the bodies of many OT saints were resurrected.  If God assumed the bodies of righteous people like Elijah and Enoch and the resurrected saints before the end of time, He could certainly grant privileges to his mother

ELEMENT OF TYPOLOGY  John sees a vision of the Covenant in Heaven and immediately after that, a “woman clothed with the sun”. John is reminding us that Mary is the NT Ark  The Ark prefigured Mary's body and soul but it especially prefigured her body. She carried the Living Word in her body  The Holy Spirit is telling us that Mary's body is physically in Heaven

RELICS  No relics of Mary have ever been found.  This is proving that her body was actually assumed.

QUIZ 1. True or false, Pope John Paul II defined the dogma. 2. True or false, Mary was ascended into Heaven. 3. What did John compare Mary to? 4. Does Mary have any relics? 5. Did Mary die?
