Levels of Planning Strategic Planning – Strategic Planning – (As a College, where do we want to be?) College-wide; on-going; multi-year Divisional/Departmental Planning –Divisional/Departmental Planning – (As a dept./div., what can we do to move the College to where it wants to be?) Departmental/Divisional Planning: Three years (2009, 2010, 2011) Initiatives (prioritized) Related Strategic Goal (s) and Objectives Related Needs Estimated Cost Indicator(s) of Success

What is NOT an initiative? A resource need is not an initiativeA resource need is not an initiative (e.g., hire a research assistant, increase a supply budget) (e.g., hire a research assistant, increase a supply budget) A continuation of what the department does is not an initiativeA continuation of what the department does is not an initiative (e.g., continue to maintain buildings and grounds) (e.g., continue to maintain buildings and grounds)

Thinking About Initiatives What is happening external to the college (e.g., in the industry, community or State, with technology, with our accreditors) that might affect what we do in the future as a department? What is happening external to the college (e.g., in the industry, community or State, with technology, with our accreditors) that might affect what we do in the future as a department?
