Vocab.  Ratio  Proportion  Rate

Define: Ratio  Ratios tell how one number is related to another number.

Examples  Ex. if they're are 20 boys in your gym and 30 girls in the other gym class. The ratio of boys to girls is 20 to 30.  Ex. If they're 3 Adidas in your closet and 5 Nikes in your closet the ratio of adidas to both shoes are 3 to 8.  Ex. If they are 6 dogs in the barn and 6 cows in the dog house. The ratio of dogs to cows is 1:1.

Problems  If there are 4 cats and 1 dog…what’s the ratio?  If there are 9 turtles and 5 fish in two different tanks..then what’s the ratio?

How to use a proportion!!!!  To use a proportion you have to have only a portion of the information to find out all the rest

Ex.  Ex. 30/50=X/100  Ex. 49/89=i/75  Ex. 69/96=y/164…..  To do these problems you have to cross multiply then divide….for ex. In example 1 above you would multiply 30*100=3000…then 3000 divided by 50 is x

Solve  Ex. 30/50=X/100  Ex. 49/89=i/75  Ex. 69/96=y/164  These are the same examples!!! Solve them the way I did!!!.

Proportions are Useful!!!  Proportions are obviously used in math!!!  Proportions are used to build stuff!!  Buildings, Cars, Cooking{chicken}and other stuff!!!  Accountants uses them!!!  Flying are planes!!!  Traveling a cross country in a car(gas)!!!

A Hint!!!  A easy way of remembering all this is by…if u don’t all the pieces to a piece then you know you have to set a proportion for figuring out all of it!!!!

Constructed response!!!  Mrs. Smith has 7 dogs out of 8 in the backyard.. She has 16 pets all together..  What's the ratio of dogs inside to how many pets she have all together..  Then find the 7/8=x/16!!!

Ex. 49/89=i/75  Solve!!!

SOLVE!!!  If Mr. Pisciotta has 5 Big Texas and gave 4 away..what’s the ratio of how many he gave away to how many he had?

Proportion Are Useful!!  Accountants uses them!!!  Flying are planes!!!  Traveling a cross country in a car(gas)!!!

QUESTIONS!!!!????
