National Socialism, Hitler … … and German History Accident and singular event in Germany’s history ? Unavoidable result of Germany’s earlier history ? Latest research trend: ‘Historicizing’ of Third Reich → Less focus on Hitler’s person but on ‘others’ → Various aspects of personal involvement of German people in Hitler’s regime

HIST2134: Methodology Chronologically exploring the Third Reich Thematically analysing important events, topics, and persons, Methodologically evaluating different kinds of primary sources (historical documents) = Comprehensive understanding trained during lectures & seminars

HIST2134: Structure Learning activities: Lecture (once weekly) Seminar (weekly after 5 Feb 2013) Research Seminar (twice towards end of teaching term) Final grade (100%): = 30% from Seminar contributions = 20% from Seminar assignment = 50% from Research Paper
