Green Connector Words Choose a connector word from the green poster and write this in your green box. This should begin your detail sentence in your green box. Let’s look at an example on the next slide.

To begin with, I woke up to the sounds of birds chirping in a nearby tree.

3 Supporting Details You will now write 3 more sentences to complete your green box. Keep your ideas in order and make sure your writing flows smoothly.

To begin with, I woke up to the sounds of birds chirping in a nearby tree. As I looked out of the window, I saw a birthday banner and several balloons hanging on the front porch. My grandma was entering the driveway with a large present in her hands. “Yeah, it’s my birthday today!” I yelled as I jumped up and down.

Yellow Connector Words Choose a connector word from the yellow poster and write this in your yellow box. This should begin your detail sentence in your yellow box. Let’s look at an example on the next slide.

Then, my mom surprised me with breakfast in bed!

3 Supporting Details You will now write 3 more sentences to complete your yellow box. Keep your ideas in order and make sure your writing flows smoothly.

Then, my mom surprised me with breakfast in bed! I ate my favorite breakfast: pancakes with cinnamon sugar sprinkled on top. After I finished my gourmet breakfast, I ran downstairs to open my gifts. This was the best birthday ever! I got everything I wished for: a new bike, Hannah Montana concert tickets, and a new watch!
