A LESSON PLAN SeniorBook2 Unit20 Disability The Second Period Name:Li Xiaoqi

Teaching Procedure ( 教学步骤 )  1.Step1.Warming up (5minutes)  2.Step2.Revision (8minutes)  3.Step3.Leading in (5minutes)  4.Step4.Presentation (25minutes)  5.Step5.Homework (2minutes)

Step1.Warming up:   Baa Baa Black Sheep  Have you any wool  Yes, sir! Yes! Sir!  Three bags full  One for my master  And one for the dame  One for the little boy  Who lives down the lane

 Step2.Revision:  Image that you meet a foreign tourist outside a hotel in your town and have a dialogue with your deskmate.  Note:  1.Talk about the weather.  2.Ask him how he managed in a weelchair.  3.Give him some suggestion about a place.  4.Using the phrases `turn out` and `dream of`.

::  Question:  1.When you see a disabled people,what will you think about him?  2.Can you tell me the name of the following disabled people? 

 Unheard Beethoven  Most people are familiar with a few of his works, if nothing more than the beginning of the Fifth Symphony, the Finale of the Ninth Symphony and the Moonlight.  But there are still hundreds of his works which until now have not been recorded at all.  So we can say he wrote many great works all his life.

 Step4.Presentation:  1.Read the text in five minutes.  Note:Mark out the points you can’t  understand well.  2.Tell me what you can’t understand.  3.Listen to the tape.  Note:Pay attention to the pronunciation and have a deep impression of the content.  4.Answer the following questions about the content.

 Difficult Points:  Phrase :  prevent sb (from) doing sth = stop sb (from) doing sth  e.g. prevent him (from) speaking  Sentence pattern:  not only…but also 不但 … 而且  e.g. Not only does he have to type out the answer on a computer,but he also gets the computer to translate it into sounds.  Grammar:  Inversion: It means the place of the subject and the predicate or part of the predicate is inverted.  Note: P178

 Questions about the content:  1.Who is introduced in the text?  Answer:Stephen Hawking  2.What is he talking about in the a lecture hall?  Answer:He is talking about the beginning of space matter and time.  3.How does he have the lecture? Answer:Because he has a disease which prevent him from speaking,he has to use a computer and a voice box.Not only does he have to type out the answer on a computer,but he also gets the computer to translate it into sounds. 

 4.Do you think many disabled people can enjoy their lives as much as we do?  Answer: Yes.Not only disabled people can draw pictures,paint and cook,but they can also study,go to university and have jobs.In their personal lives,they also get married and have children.

 Step5.Homework:  Write a paragraph from the answers above to introduce Stephen Hawking.  Note:  1.using`prevent from`and`not only…but also`  2.pay attention to the connection between the sentences.
