Chapter 7-1 Text pp p. 272 #1, 3, 6, 7, 8 No Quiz

 There are different expressions and forms of prayer (more on those in the next lesson).  The Lord’s prayer, or Our Father is sometimes called the perfect prayer.  It is a summation of the entire Gospel.  It teaches:  Prayer is communication with God.  It is God upon whom we should rely physically and spiritually.  Helps us resist temptation and petition effectively.

 We are Allowed to call God Father.  What kind of God permits that?  Our relationship is of a son of God, protected by a heavenly Father.  Jesus becomes our sibling  Through redemption (Objective? Subjective? Both?) we are incorporated into the mystical body of Christ.

 Hallowed is Old English for holy.  This is also a profession of faith and seeks holiness in life for the one professing it.  The kingdom of God consists of the reign of Christ.  It was established at the Incarnation  This petition asks for the kingdom of God to continue to spread throughout the world.

 Earth becomes Heaven insofar as God’s will occurs here.  God’s will is for us to love God and love neighbor as self.  Our daily needs are physical as well as spiritual.  This is a petition to give every person what is best in life.

 Think of this as an “If – Then” statement.  If I am forgiving of others, then please show forgiveness to me.  If I show mercy to others, then please show mercy to me.  Seek forgiveness from those you have wronged.  Love unconditionally.

 God does not lead us into sin, that come from Satan, but is a consequence of free choice.  Concupiscence – know what it means.  Temptation provides you a moral choice, which means it gives you the opportunity to say yes to God.  Amen – Hebrew for “so be it”  An expression of faith in God and trust that things prayed for will come to pass.
