The black spider monkey is 1 of 3 types of spider monkeys. They feed on mostly fruits and nuts. Spider monkeys are found in tropical rainforest in central and south America. They are agile creatures. They use their tails to grip onto braches. No other monkey is faster or more agile.

Size: The weight range of the black spider monkey is pounds. Also the body range is in. Color : Black fur but the face can be a different color.

Job in the ecosystem: The black spider monkey has a very important job in seed dispersal. This means that the spider monkey deposits fruit and nut seeds around the rain forest so new plants can grow.

The black spider monkey is in danger from hunting and habitat loss due to human activity. Land is disappearing due to soy bean farming and cattle ranching. Mining adds toxic chemicals to the water Oil pipelines are being built in their habitat.

River dams for electrical power block the rivers. Climate changes result in less rainfall which means the rainforest is not thriving. Illegal wildlife trade happens with primates which means people buy spider monkeys.
