Respect To regard, to have regard to in design or purpose. To view or consider with some degree of reverence; to esteem as possessed of real worth. I always loved and respected Sir William Honor in which men hold the distinguished worth or substantial good qualities of others, It expresses less than reference and veneration, which regard elders and superiors; whereas respect may regard juniors and inferiors. To respect the person, to suffer the opinion or judgment to be influenced or biased by a regard to the outward circumstances of a person, to the prejudice of right and equity. Deu 1:17 You shall not be partial in judgment. You shall hear the small and the great alike. You shall not be intimidated by anyone, for the judgment is God's.

Respect (Thesaurus) Regard; Estimation; Honor; Admiration; Esteem; Appreciation; Consideration; Good will; favor. The lord had respect to Abel and his offering; Recognition; Reverence; Sense; Veneration; Relation to Respect through Covenants (Promises): Respect in Judgment: Respect of Heart: Respect of Prayer (Supplication): Respect of God’s Principles: Respect of Things:

We want to be a father Who shows respect of our Father in heaven Who earns the respect of our children Who’s children respect their mother, elders, authority and themselves Fathers earn respect by modeling effectively the Father which demonstrates he is worthy of respect By showing respect to his children By being respectful to others Respect flows from and to a father who is like the Father in heaven

The Word commands us to: Honor your father and your mother (Exod 20:12) Show respect to the elderly (Lev 19:32) Elders are worthy of double honor (1Tim 5:17) Respect people because they are created in the image of God (Gen 1:26,27) Respect those in authority for there is no authority except from God (Rm13:1) God is a respectful father and worthy of the highest respect

We can only be a father like God if we work with his Holy Spirit to display His image in all we do The Father figure Showing respect Key to being worthy of respect is showing respect Modeling respectful attitudes and actions to youth shows the look and sound of respect Respect starts with seeing kids through God’s eyes and treating them with honor like the children of God they are Defining respect Make kids aware of biblical commands for respect Don’t call them to standards they don’t know Define respect for children and show them what respectful behavior looks like

Fostering self respect Healthy respect of others begins with self-respect Communicate the following to teach self-respect: I respect you because you are created in the image of God I respect you because you are a fellow member of God’s eternal family I respect you because you enrich my life I respect you because of your uniqueness, your personality, your talents, and your gifts Demanding respect for your wife Children learn respect in the home They need to practice respect daily

Insisting on respect between siblings A wise father will draw a line at name-calling, insults, and cruel teasing, explaining these do not meet biblical standards for God’s people Dr James Dobson’s boundaries of respect No child is ever allowed to make fun of the other in a destructive war Each child’s room is his private territory The older child is not permitted to tease the younger child The younger child is not permitted to harass the older child The children are not required to play with each other when they prefer to be alone or with friends We mediate any genuine conflict as quickly as possible, being careful to always show impartiality and extreme fairness

Seizing teachable moments Effective fathers look for every opportunity to impart wisdom and insight Effective fathers seize teachable moments Effective fathers wring every drop of possibility out of every teachable moment

Small group break out Be back promptly at 7:50 pm tonight Discuss questions in groups and at home
