Activity #1 – How fast can you react? Partner #1 stands with his/her forearm on the table with only the hand hanging off the side with thumb and index finger ready to pinch the meter stick. Partner #2 holds the meter stick where the bottom of the ruler (0 cm) is even with the first person’s fingers. Partner #2 drops the meter stick without warning and Partner #1 tries to catch it as quickly as possible. Record the distance the ruler dropped on your paper to the nearest centimeter. Repeat 3 times for each partner for each hand. Find the average. Back to the Beginning FunctionsPartsReflexNext Activity
Activity #2: Can You Keep From Reacting? Can you make yourself not blink? To answer this question, try the following activity. –Put on safety goggles. –Have your partner stand across from you and gently toss a cotton ball toward your goggles 10 times. Your partner should not give you any warning before tossing the cotton balls. –Count the number of times you blink and the number of times you are able to keep from blinking. Interpreting Data Compare the two numbers. Why is blinking considered a reflex? ReflexPartsFunctions Back to the Beginning Activity #1 Finish
