Topic 2: Change is Good Presenter: Jennifer Sneed RC’03, SCILS’03 School of Communication & Information Alumni Association Alumni Leaders Conference September 11, 2009

Group Transformation New Leadership – Change in President New Alumni Relations – RUAA New Name – SCILS to SC&I

Challenges Small # of people active in our association – Need to increase involvement Limited finances – Need to increase fundraising

History * Reliance on former Federation structure *Limited number of events held * Not much revenue from events *Limited outreach - Newsletter - Website Same Strategy

Solutions Goal: Increase Visibility & Involvement Increase Outreach – Updates Monthly – Utilize Facebook – Post Information on Alumni Events Calendar – Post Information in Rutgers Magazine Revamp Website

Solutions Continued Plan New Events – Diversify the types of activities – Partner with other RU groups Ask for Alumni Opinion – Questionnaire to aid in planning events – Evaluation after events

Results Guest Speaker Series Planned Website Revamp – Necessary to reach goals Plan Out Events for the Year – Needed to appropriately promote and organize Combine Big Events into Reunion Weekend & Rutgers Day – Example: Our Awards Dinner

Conclusion It is important to alter your approach if what you have been doing in the past continuously results in an unchanged outcome; in order to improve sometimes you need to create a new direction; listen to and try out different ideas in order to keep enhancing your results.
